As the novel progresses, our feelings and attitudes toward characters may have evolved. I want you to consider Fitzgerald's intentions: what, ultimately, do you believe he wants the reader to feel about characters and why?
We've looked closely at symbol as we've moved through the text. I want you to consider the symbols that are associated with characters as well. What do they reveal? I want you to move beyond simply reflecting that Daisy wears white. Expand on it. What does it mean? How might you prove it? Maybe it's ironic. Maybe she's projecting what she wants.
Look very closely at the evolution of character, their diction, the imagery associated with them, their attitudes, their relationships to others...
Finally, I want you also to consider who is guilty and who is innocent in this novel. Be sure you are expounding on the reasoning behind it.
As always, this is to be written in academic language and must abide by standard MLA format. I expect it to be error free and to speak to your prowess as an intelligent and critical reader.
